Troop 24 – Attleboro MA

Life Scout Matt Chin was able to complete his Eagle Project one day earlier than expected thanks to good coordination and plenty of volunteer help.

Matt’s project focused on one area of Capron Park that needed attention.  Matt decided to repair and re-paint some of the damaged picnic tables near the playground.  He also built a raised garden surrounding a utility box.

After raising funds, getting donations, and organizing volunteer help, Matt planned on working Friday, Saturday and Sunday the weekend of September 18th.  Getting the work done was complicated by the new safety guidelines imposed during the coronavirus pandemic.  Masks, social distancing, and limited numbers were some of the added requirements for this project.

Matt was pleasantly surprised when the project came to completion on Saturday afternoon, one day earlier than expected.

On February 25, 2020, the troop went to one of the Attleboro fire stations and learned the techniques of CPR, taught by Captain Al Murrant. The scouts had a hands-on experience.

On Sunday, February 23, we welcomed our newest Scout, Hunter, to Troop 24. He was in Pack 24 and crossed over into our troop. Welcome Hunter, we are looking forward to showing you what our program has to offer!

Troop 24 held an Eagle Court of Honor on February 9th, 2020, to recognize the achievement of Sebastian Myers, Robert Myers, and Isa Siddiq. Along with their friends and family, many important representatives came to congratulate the three for their success. All three were congratulated for their community projects that earned them the rank of Eagle Scout.

Sebastian refurbished seating and the altar of the Hornbine Church in Rehoboth, MA.

Robert planted flower beds on the sides of the Hornbine Church in Rehoboth, MA.

Isa created a walkway for the Attleboro Community Garden out of stones.

The Boy Scouts of Troop 24 and Cub Scouts of Pack 24 will once again be co-hosting a pancake breakfast.  The event is in the basement of Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus Church on Sunday, February 2.  Not only is this event a great way for the scouts to be involved in their community, but it is a great opportunity for younger scouts and older scouts to work together.  100% of the profits gathered from the breakfast go directly towards the scouting programs of Troop 24 and Pack 24.

8:00am – 1:00pm.
All you can eat pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, juice, milk & coffee. $8.00 per person. Children 5 and under are free.

Troop 24 held an Eagle Court of Honor on December 22, 2019, to recognize Mikey Shuman’s achievement. Along with Mikey’s friends and family, Mayor Paul Heroux, State Rep. Jim Hawkins, and Senator Paul Feeney came to congratulate Mikey for his success.

Sebastian Myers and Robert Myers had their Council Court of Honor on the night of December 18.

For the past few weeks, some of the scouts have been working on the Fly-Fishing Merit Badge with John Stein. One of the requirements of the merit badge is to make your own lure. Mr. Stein contacted the Bear’s Den, a local fly-fishing shop in Taunton, Massachusetts, and they contacted local fishermen who volunteered to teach the scouts the art of lure making.

Each scout made 3 or 4 lures under the guidance of talented fishermen. The results were great as everyone learned quickly.
